Making Precious Strides, Inc. continues to make strides to

find a cure for Hunter Syndrome

Secon= d Annual Zach’s Run in honor of local child will be held on the

<= span style=3D'font-size:14.0pt'>Atlantic City Boar= dwalk, Sunday, September 30

ATLANTIC CITY- Making Precious Stride= s, Inc. (MPS, Inc.) will hold its Se= cond Annual Zach’s Run to continue raising fund= s to find a cure for Hunter Syndrome. Runners and walkers will line up along the Atla= ntic City Boardwalk on Sunday, September 30 for a 5K (3.1 mile) race and 1 mile = fun walk open to all ages. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m.- begi= nning and ending at Oscar McClinton Park located at North Maine and Madison Avenu= es.

Following the race, MPS, Inc. will hol= d a check presentation to donate proceeds raised from last year’s event to representatives from two medical research centers currently working on a cu= re for Hunter Syndrome- the University of North Carolina and Children̵= 7;s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The 5K race will feature several age group categories including men’s and women’s categories of 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49= , 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+. Trophies and medals will be awarded for 1st, = 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Awards will be given to the overall top thr= ee runners in the men’s and women’s division. The youngest finisher will receive a special award.

Pre-Registration cost is $20; Day-of Registration is $25.

Food, beverages, and entertainment provided by local radio sponsor SoJo 104.5fm and a special appearance by the Soul Line dancers will be provided to all that attend.

The race’s namesake and local child Zachary Dearth was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome in July 2005 at the age of 3. Hun= ter Syndrome or (Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II) is a life-threatening, genetic disease that affects the body's ability to break = down mucopolysaccharides in joints and soft tissue l= eading to life-long complications. There is currently no cure for Hunter Syndrome, however research initiatives are underway.

Making Precious Strides, Inc. to hold Second Annual Zach’s Run in Atlantic City/ add one

Zachary’s parents Cheryl (Betz) Dearth and= Chris Dearth, originally of Somers Point and Margate, NJ respectively, founded Making Precious Strides to raise awareness and contri= bute funds towards national medical research initiatives for Hunter Syndrome. Zach’s Run is MPS, Inc.’s annual flagship event. MPS, Inc. was incorporated in the state of New Jersey in 2006. It is the only organization in th= e United States raising money primarily for Hunter Syndrome.

Four hundred runners and walkers participated in= the First Annual Zach’s Run held in 2006. The event raised<= /span> over $35,000- the majority of which will go to research centers currently working on a cure for Hunter Syndrome. The other money has been designated = for families affected by the life-threatening disease and local educational awareness programs.
